In 1986 I purchased Powell Flutes. As a musician who plays just about all of the reed instruments, the opportunity to purchase Powell Flutes was very appealing. Today I am still running Powell and occasionally taking time off to play softball (more on that later).

We started Sonaré Winds in 2002 and based it on establishing partnerships with high quality instrument makers. As many flutists know, the key to flute acoustics is the headjoint. Thus, the first Sonaré product was a flute made for us by an experienced Asian flute maker that incorporated a hand cut Signature Powell headjoint.

In 2005 we ventured into the brass world. Using the Sonaré partnering approach, we turned to the experts at Blackburn Trumpet and built a top quality trumpet around a Blackburn leadpipe. The new Sonaré Trumpet was also born with adjustable valve guides (patent pending) and cryogenic treatment. Some of the top Trumpet Artists in the world now perform on a Sonaré.

Our partnership concept now extends to the distribution of world famous Keilwerth saxophones, York brass band instruments, and Schreiber bassoons in the USA and Canada.
